The Sony PXW-Z90 is a professional palm-sized XDCAM camcorder built around a 1.0-type (13.2mm x 8.8mm) back-illuminated Exmor RS CMOS sensor delivering 14.2 effective megapixels. Powered by the BIONZ X image processor, it records broadcast-quality 4K (3840x2160) footage in the XAVC codec at up to 100Mbps, and supports a wide range of frame rates — from standard 24p/25p/30p in 4K all the way up to 120fps in Full HD and super-slow-motion up to 960fps (NTSC) / 1000fps (PAL) at lower resolutions. The fixed ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T* lens offers a 29mm wide-angle starting point and 12x optical zoom, complemented by Sony's Fast Hybrid Autofocus system with 273 phase-detection points covering approximately 84% of the image area for precise, responsive subject tracking.

The PXW-Z90 supports Instant HDR workflows via Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) as well as S-Log2 and S-Log3 picture profiles, making it a versatile tool for professional colorists. Monitoring is handled by a 3.5-inch 1,550,000-dot LCD touchscreen and a 0.39-inch 2,360,000-dot OLED electronic viewfinder. Connectivity is broadcast-ready with 3G-SDI output, full HDMI, dual XLR audio inputs on the handle, a Sony Multi-Interface Shoe, and built-in dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4GHz/5GHz) with NFC for live streaming and remote FTP file transfer. Dual media card slots accept SDXC, SDHC, and Memory Stick PRO Duo cards for extended recording flexibility.
