For stills and for HD and 4K video, the 16-35mm f2.8 features Sony’s brilliant Direct Drive Super Sonic Wave AF motor, which will be very welcomed thanks to its blistering speed, whisper-quiet operation sounds and pinpoint accuracy. A focus hold button is easy to reach and helps you lock onto your focal point in critical moments, while an MF/AF switch ensures you can decide when to take matters into your own hands.

When inspecting both the physical and optical construction of this lens it is easy to see that Sony have delivered exactly what is expected. Images are sharp, detailed and free from common nasties, thanks to a design that includes two Extra-low dispersion, three Aspherical and two XA elements, and the application of both Nano AR and Fluorine coatings. Physically the lens is dust and moisture resistant, meaning you can take it out with you to the far corners of the world without worrying too much about the elements where your lens is concerned - your outfit is another matter!
