Because this premium telephoto's substantial front diameter won't accommodate traditional screw-on filters, Sony designed this filter to sit within the lens's internal accessory slot, delivering optical performance without compromising image quality.

Polarising filters work by filtering out reflected light that has become polarised as it bounces off non-metallic surfaces and air molecules. The result is dramatic: glare and reflections vanish, haze lifts from landscapes, and colours-especially skies and foliage-gain rich saturation and depth.

Unlike basic linear polarisers, this filter includes a quarter-wave plane that circularly polarises the light. This critical difference preserves your camera's autofocus and exposure metering accuracy, which would otherwise be compromised by a linear polariser alone.
