The Panasonic DMW-BG2 is a battery grip purpose-built for the LUMIX S1R II (DC-S1RM2) mirrorless camera. It accommodates one DMW-BLK22 lithium-ion battery within the grip itself, working in tandem with the battery inside the camera body to effectively double available shooting time for extended photography and videography sessions. A hot-swap capability allows the grip's battery to be replaced on the fly without powering the camera down, ensuring truly uninterrupted operation during live events, streaming, or high-pressure shoots. In power-intensive recording modes — such as high-resolution video and ProRes formats — the camera body and grip batteries supply power simultaneously for maximum performance.

Beyond power extension, the DMW-BG2 significantly enhances handling comfort and control. Its ergonomic form mirrors the camera body's layout, offering a dedicated shutter release button, control dial, and 8-way joystick for fully intuitive operation in both horizontal and vertical (portrait) orientations. Built from a robust magnesium alloy frame, the grip is dust- and splash-resistant, making it well suited to demanding outdoor shooting environments. It also supports USB Power Delivery (USB PD) for convenient in-field charging flexibility.
