This Canon telephoto zoom lens is one of the most popular of its type in the Canon EOS range, due to its budget price and the breadth of usability it brings to your kit. More often purchased as a second lens to accompany a shorter more standard zoom, the EF-S 55-250mm STM lens is suitable for capturing those subjects off at a distance that requires a little more reach, making it notably useful for Sports, action and wildlife.

Not just suitable for capturing photographs of the previously mentioned applications, the 55-250mm contains an excellent Stepping focus motor, which makes it ideal for filming the high-resolution videos that your EOS body is capable of. Not only is the autofocus provided by this motor fast enough to keep up with moving subjects, such as your child running around the yard, but it is also smooth and silent, so as to go undetected during the playbacks of your family home videos.

When using the longer range of a zoom lens or when shooting indoors, or in other conditions of low light, camera shake is always a big problem that can ruin a promising photo. To combat this issue the Canon EF-S 55-250mm lens has a built-in Image Stabiliser, which allows you to shoot at a slower shutter speed if necessary, without motion blur spoiling your images.
