Its dedicated Cinematic Video Mode provides a simplified way to get professional-looking footage by using a standard shutter angle, frame rate, and colour tone. For more creative looks, you can choose from nine pre-made "Imaging Recipes" and see a real-time preview of the effect.

For advanced users, the ZR offers incredible flexibility. It's the first Nikon camera to use the RED R3D NE codec, allowing it to record in seven different formats, including 12-bit RAW for maximum detail and editing freedom. This includes high-resolution 6K and 4K recording.

The ZR also includes a suite of professional monitoring tools. The 4.0-inch LCD screen supports LUTs (Look-Up Tables), which allows you to preview a final color-graded look while you're still shooting. Other tools, like waveforms, histograms, and zebra stripes, help you accurately monitor exposure.

Finally, the camera's autofocus system is a standout feature. It uses deep learning with 273 focus points to track a wide range of subjects, including people, animals, vehicles, and even aircraft. Its face detection is so precise it can recognize a subject's face even when they take up as little as 3% of the frame, making it reliable for wide shots and fast-moving scenes.

This feature captures a wide dynamic range without the risk of clipping, even with the built-in microphone. The integrated OZO Audio system offers five different pickup patterns, including a voice-isolated mode and a 360-degree mode. It can also be paired with the optional ME-D10 shotgun microphone for professional, broadcast-quality sound without the need for external batteries or XLR inputs.
