A fast super-wide prime lens – Nikon 24mm f1.8G ED

This optically brilliant lens is extremely useful for both FX and DX cameras and will never leave you disappointed with the calibre of images that it produces. On FX cameras the wide 24mm length will ensure you will never miss any details of the majestic scenes that are before you. For landscapes, this is a fantastic length, but it is also useful for interior shots, architecture and group photos. If you are the owner of a DX-format Nikon DSLR the equivalent focal length is very close to 35mm, a classic focal length that is very close to what the human eye sees and once considered standard.

A fine optical performer
Optically this 24mm lens features two ED glass elements and two Aspherical elements which lead to sharp images with minimal chromatic aberration and distortion. Nikon has used Nanocrystal and super integrated coatings on these lens elements which has led to an obvious reduction in flare, ghosting and internal reflections. All of this technology that goes on internally is a thing of wonder, but all you really need to know is the image quality offered by this lens is exceptional and you will not be disappointed with the results.

Fast and easy to focus
Focusing on the Nikon 24mm is quick and easy thanks to the silent wave motor and rear focusing design. For stills and video, the Nikon 24mm f1.8 will quickly find focus with minimal effort and it is so quiet it will not be noticed in discrete situations. For the ultimate control full-time manual focus override is offered, ideal if you are a perfectionist or if you are photographing close-up objects where accuracy is imperative.

Sharp wide open – Shoot freely in available light
While such a wide focal length does not lend itself to capturing extreme depths of field, it is possible with this lens due to the very fast f1.8 max aperture. The main draw-card of this aperture rating though, is the hand-held shooting ability in available light. Landscape photographers often find their desired light at dawn or dusk, times which often require carrying large and heavy tripods due to the longer shutter speeds required. This f1.8 aperture allows you to shoot in duller conditions without your tripod which will bring you more enjoyment and save you from getting a sore back!
Feel free to use this lens wide open, it is remarkably sharp and light falloff is barely perceptible.
