A long telephoto Macro lens, for highly magnified and detailed close ups
Suitable for usage on your full frame or APS-C format Digital SLR camera, this telephoto Macro lens from Sigma is a welcome addition to any kit. It's long 180mm focal length and 1:1 magnification ratio make it an excellent close-up lens, but the large f2.8 aperture can also be used in conjunction with the focal length for a range of other applications, including tightly cropped portraits, with shallow depths of field. The appearance of these out of focus areas created, is natural and beautiful, thanks to the rounded 9 blade diaphragm.
Speed and stability
The previously mentioned f2.8 maximum aperture of the Sigma 180mm Macro lens is brilliant for explorations into selective focus, but it also allows for faster shutter speeds, and therefore more capable low-light performance. A rarity for such a lens, this prime from Sigma features an optical stabiliser, further benefiting low-light shooting and handheld shooting in general. Particularly useful for Macro work, where small movement and bumps can be critical, this stabiliser awards you with an exceptional level of stability.
Achieve focus, quickly and easily
Useful for a large number of photographic and even cinematic uses, the Sigma 180mm includes a Hyper Sonic Motor in its construction. This motor allows for faster and quieter autofocus, allowing you to go unnoticed and therefore produce more natural results. The closest focus distance is just 47cm, exceptional for the long focal length and made possible by a floating inner focus system.
Quality construction for quality results
A host of top tier techniques have been utilised in the build of this Sigma Macro lens, in order to reduce any imperfections drastically. Multi layer coating is in place to increase contrast and improve colour fidelity, whilst tackling ghosting and flare, and FLD glass elements have been included for overall image sharpness and the reduction of aberrations and distortions.
