Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM Lens

Canon EF 50mm F1.8 STM Lens

So-so
, 24/12/2015

The good points are that the images that come out are nice, it's compact, and it's cheap.

But the build quality is terrible. You can't use it for video (the AF motor noise is extremely loud), and the manual focus makes a terrible grinding spring noise. I looked it up and it doesn't seem to be a defect, just the way these lenses work.

There's just nothing else in the Canon EF 50mm range at this price point. So it's fine if you want to take happy snaps, and that's what I'm using it for. But definitely don't use it for video (with audio). And I don't think you'll ever feel fond of it like you may with other lenses.

Pros: Compact
Cons: Build quality

I Personally love the image quality and how easy it is to use about this camera! It is a brilliant cost and money worthwhile spending on this camera. I think this camera is one of the most unique ones Canon sell. Please do sell more of these types of cameras because they are spectacular!

Pros: Easy to use, Compact, Battery life, Screen size

Sony Handycam NEX VG30 + 18-200mm

Sony Handycam NEX VG30 + 18-200mm

APSC sized sensor, ability to change lenses, comfortable eyecup with great view finder, comfortable "video camera" form factor, excellent 11x zoom lens.
, 16/12/2015

You get a great camera out of the box and the 18-200 lens is amazing. Its mechanical zoom is fantastic and you can also quickly manually adjust zoom by turning off the zoom motor. The image stabilisation in the lens is hard to fault. Using a follow focus on the 18-200mm is almost impossible though and manually focusing can be tricky with the focus ring and a little slow in low light if you're relying on the cameras auto focusing.
I recommend upgrading the battery to the big one as the out of the box battery is limited. I get several hours filming with the big one and can get a whole wedding in using this camera as my main camera. Sound is amazing. Better than my Rode mic's. If you are happy to shoot in auto it is awesome. Shooting in full manual is a little tricky as the buttons all rely on a single wheel to adjust. Note that it uses db instead of iso for those used to shooting manual on dslr's but you quickly get used to it. Get's noisy at fairly low db though. I recommend buying the 50mm f1.8 and especially the 16mm f2.8. Both are great lenses that enhance the low light usability of the camera. The 16mm also significantly increases the portability of the camera (good for action where wide angles are useful) as the 18-200mm while absolutely awesome - is very heavy.

Very nice camera with the upgraded battery it would be a straight out of the box camera for documentary, wedding, holiday shooting with great picture and sound.

Light weight and decent power. Used at a wedding and it definitely did the job with crisp photos. Two AA batteries was the only downside.

SanDisk 32GB iXpand Drive for iPhone

At last a flash drive for iPad
, 13/12/2015

The iXpand works perfectly now for an iPad mini 2 but I was taken aback when I discovered I needed a firmware update of iXpand Drive for it to operate on iOS9. Without a compatible iOS8 machine, I was finally able to do this on an elderly PC. It took some time to download but it was worth it - much easier than emailing files to get them in/out of the iPad. It is expensive but Ted's has the best price.

Love it
, 9/12/2015

Great camera. I little more complicated that the PEN EPL7 but I am going to take advantage of the "Have a Coffee With Olympus" deal that Teds Cameras offers and learn how to use all the bells and whistles properly. It feel lovely to hold and feels like a much more substantial camera than my previous one but is not too heavy.

Close up filters to reduce focus distance for food photography
, 7/12/2015

I bought this set of filters to help me reduce the focussing distance on my Sony 35 mm lens which is mounted to a Sony α7ii. I do a bit of food photography as a blogger and these filters have helped in restaurants help me get closer without being too obvious.
