Whether you're shooting documentaries, commercial work, or narrative projects, this lens delivers the optical quality and mechanical precision that cinema production demands.

Built with the cinematographer in mind, this lens features a focus gear ring for seamless follow focus integration and a quiet, uncoupled aperture gear ring for discreet T-stop adjustments during filming. Distance scales and T-stop markings appear on both sides of the barrel for easy reference from any angle. The manual aperture control with low T1.5 opening ensures natural image capture across varied lighting conditions without electronic dependence.

Optically, the 85mm combines 12 elements in 10 groups, including two high-refractive index lenses that compact the design whilst maximising sharpness. An aspherical glass element suppresses colour aberration and delivers exceptional contrast from centre to corner, even when shooting wide open. Samyang's Ultra Multi Coating technology optimises light transmission and virtually eliminates flare and ghosting. The result is the beautiful, soft bokeh this focal length is known for, enhanced by eight aperture blades that form an almost-circular opening for stunning starry backgrounds.

The lens adapts a floating lens system to achieve a minimum focus distance of 1.1 metres, giving you flexibility in framing. A compact, solid aluminium alloy body ensures reliability in demanding environments, whilst the detachable petal-shaped hood protects against unwanted light. The unified gear ring location across the Samyang cinema line simplifies your workflow when working with multiple focal lengths.

Equally at home in still photography and motion work, the 85mm T1.5 VDSLR UMC II suits both amateurs expanding into cinema and established professionals seeking a versatile, affordable prime.
