Its six-element, four-group spherical construction is paired with a nine-bladed circular aperture diaphragm, producing smooth, well-rounded out-of-focus rendering across a versatile focal length suited to street, travel, landscape, and portrait photography alike.

With a maximum aperture of f/2.5 and a minimum focusing distance of 0.8 metres, this lens handles a broad range of shooting situations with ease. Built-in 6-bit digital coding ensures seamless communication with Leica M8 and subsequent digital M-series bodies, enabling automatic lens recognition and the option for software-driven vignetting correction. The E39 filter thread adds further flexibility for those wishing to use optical filters.
