Styled in collaboration with Porsche Industrial Design, it features an electronically controlled, vertical-travel titanium focal plane shutter with speeds ranging from 32 seconds to 1/8000 sec, a Contax/Yashica lens mount engineered for rigidity, and a virtually 100% field-of-view eye-level viewfinder. Its exposure system supports aperture priority AE, shutter speed priority AE, and full manual control, complemented by TTL full-aperture centre-weighted and spot metering.

At the heart of the RTS III is a groundbreaking Real Time Vacuum Back with a ceramic pressure plate, which holds the film perfectly flat against the film plane for maximum sharpness — a world first at the time of its introduction. A built-in motor drive delivers continuous shooting at up to 5 frames per second, while additional features include a pre-flash TTL spot meter, automatic exposure bracketing, multiple exposure capability, AE lock, exposure compensation, and second-curtain flash sync. Designed to unlock the full optical performance of Carl Zeiss T* lenses, the RTS III remains one of the most accomplished manual-focus 35mm SLR cameras ever made.
