Fantastic edge to edge Image Quality:
-Compared to the previous VR I version, image softness on the edges has been greatly improved thanks to the professional optics that Nikon has implemented in this lens. The addition of Nano Crystal coated elements as well as the Extra-Dispersion (ED) glass elements has significantly reduced ghosting and flaring when shooting in extremely lit situations. Also, the implementation of the new VR II technology ensures sharper images and increased shutter speeds as well as accurate focus everytime.
Closer Focusing Distance:
- The VR II version focuses to as close as 4 feet, 2 inches (measured with the lens that i acquired from the front lens element). Nikon has specified 4 feet, 6 inches, which is at least 5-6 inches closer than the VR I. However, the VR II version has a "shrinking" focal length at close focusing distances. At the closest focusing distance specified above, the effective focal range becomes 65mm-135mm, making this lens have a wider field of view at close focusing distances. As you focus at further objects, the effective focal length increases and eventually becomes a 70-200mm lens at infinity. Please consider your photographic requirements prior to purchasing this lens.
Professional Build Quality:
-The lens is exceptionally well built for professional field requirements. However, the lens weighs close to 1500g. The sensitivity of the feature control buttons have been re-calibrated to prevent accidental activation / deactivation and switching in between modes. The sensitivity of the zoom and focus ring have been severely improved for easy operation during hand held shooting.
