The three-hour tour takes you through several Melbourne hot spots, trying new techniques, teaching trouble-shooting tips while allowing you time to explore your creativity.

About the Course

Exciting once in a life time flight into the beautiful Australian Outback, with a limit of 8 people per trip

After our successful summer and autumn trips to Flinders Island, we now head off north to the outback. Lake Mungo, in Western NSW, and Arkaroola, in the Northern Flinders Ranges, South Australia. Including the famous Arkaroola Ridgetop Tour in a four wheel drive with a guide who will fill you in on the surrounding flora, fauna and geology.

About the Island

The amazing Flinders Island contains diverse landscapes, from pristine beaches to rugged mountains. It's located in the Bass Strait, just North East of Tasmania.

Itinerary

Friday: we depart from Essendon airport , just outside of Melbourne at 1pm and after a one-hour flight in our private twin-engine aircraft we arrive at Flinders Island.
Saturday & Sunday: we photograph We travel as a small group, so there’s plenty of time for us to assess what information you need to take your photography to the next level. We return to Essendon airport at 6pm on Sunday

Accommodation

The beautiful Mountain Seas Retreat is set in rugged wilderness, it is the finest accommodation available on Flinders Island. Everyone has his or her own private room, unless you’re travelling as a double. The food is excellent, prepared by award winning chef Ann-Marie Wilkins, often using organic ingredients grown on the property.

After our successful PhotoEscapades summer and autumn trips to Flinders Island, we now head off to Arkaroola in the Flinders ranges, the Birdsville Races and the mining town of White Cliffs.

Because we travel as a small group, Ric Wallis and one of Ted's photographic assistants, will be on hand at all times to give you individual advice suited to you, whether you use an iPhone, Canon, Nikon, or Hasselblad. We will also cover computer technique which you can adapt to whichever computer program you choose as well as subjects such as composition, camera RAW, and using colour and shading to enhance your pictiures, plus answers to any questions you may like to ask.

We take small groups of people to enjoy and photograph the beauty of remote Australia whilst staying in the best accommodation available.

What could be more fun for passionate photographers than to fly in comfort to these hard to get to locations with their own equipment and, with Ric’s know-how, take their photography to another level, arriving home with fabulous pictures?

About the Island

Breathtaking Three Hummock Island sits just off the coast of North West Tasmania. It is a magical place of granite coastlines, protected coves, sweeping beaches and surprising diversity.

Three Hummock Island has only 2 permanent residents and is one of the purest environments on the planet. Crystal clear water, white sandy beaches, inland lakes and forests remain largely untouched. Twenty kilometers away a Baseline Air Pollution Station consistently measures the air as the cleanest in the world.

Itinerary

Leave Melbourne on Saturday morning at 9am from Lilydale airport with one night on Three Hummock, returning on Sunday evening at 6pm.

Over two days Ric Wallis will be your personal guide & teacher of photographic composition, technique and location scouting. You will travel the island taking in and photographing the diverse sights, from pristine beaches to rugged rock formations.

Covering the use of histograms, lenses, depth of field, information on composition beyond the law of thirds, a lot about light and a philosophical approach to post production.

A Ted’s staff member, is on hand to help you with any questions you may have regarding your photographic equipment.

Return to Melbourne on Sunday evening with fabulous photographs and a renewed sense of adventure. All flights, meals and accommodation are included in the price.

Accommodation

The Homestead sits nestled under established trees just a short stroll from the jetty on Chimney Corner. With sweeping views down Home Beach and across to nearby Hunter Island, the century-old Homestead is a remarkable place to stay. Recently renovated, the Homestead sleeps up to fourteen people in comfort, in five bedrooms. The three king bedrooms can be configured for twin share or for couples.

During the session, you will develop an intuitive workflow that will enable you to download your photographs onto your computer in an organised easy to reference method.

The workshop discussion will include popular programs to use and the benefits of RAW versus JPEG file capture. The session concludes with a demonstration of basic corrective editing techniques using Adobe Lightroom program.

This workshop is for the keen amateur photographer that wants to polish up on their basic photography knowledge. You will be taught how a photographer thinks, as you develop an easy to remember method of operation. This includes a 5-step system to set your camera, calibrate colour balance and maintain correct exposure.

The group will reconvene after lunch to explore creative exposure techniques, then a short theory session is followed by a field excursion with several hands-on challenges to sharpen your new skills.

This session finishes at Sunset with a brief review of the images taken, to award bragging rights for best sunset image.

This is your chance to spend the whole day learning photography.

In this hands-on workshop, you will learn advanced focusing techniques that will improve the sharpness of your images. Gain a deeper understanding of the depth of field in your images and how they relate to your aperture value and high magnification macro lenses. This workshop is full of creative ideas you can replicate at home. Add to your photography skill set the use of LED and off camera lighting as you complete the skill based challenge stations.

This session focuses on fun and having you take home some unique macro wall art.

You be the artist and create your own wall art for home. Before heading out on our night excursion, a focused study group will be held to discuss the cameras advanced features.

The correct application of these functions and good camera handling technique will ensure we have an enjoyable evening of photography on location. You will add to your photography skill set and an understanding of long exposure techniques, white balance, focusing in the dark and painting with light.

Getting familiar with your camera’s wireless flash capabilities will allow you to take professional quality portraits at your next family gathering. We will discuss the cameras built-in flash and external speed lights.
