Providing enthusiasts with a more portable entry-point into Fuji's wonderful Pro Mirrorless system, is the new GFX 50R. The 51.4MP CMOS sensor and X-processor pro are the same ones that we have seen in the 50S, so we can be sure of the type of exceptional quality that this camera is capable of, while some of the dedicated exterior controls have been replaced by touchscreen functions, to allow a more compact build. These touch functions can be performed on the huge 3.2-inch LCD screen at the rear, which is also of the tilting variety, while an OLED EVF is also available for composing your images. Portability does not come at the sacrifice of quality, with the Fujifilm GFX 50R being built from magnesium alloy, resulting in dust and moisture-resistance, as well as freezeproof performance. This camera is for those that want to go wherever possible, and capture the best quality pictures possible when they get there.
The Fujifilm GFX 50S caused a huge splash upon release, providing a more compact option to the Pro level DSLRs that once controlled the market. With the GFX 50R, Fuji has taken a similar approach, cutting down on the size and bulk a little more, to provide users with an, even more, portable entry point into this pro standard mirrorless system. What's familiar in this body is the 51.4MP medium format sized CMOS sensor, and X-processor pro, which is already known to deliver impressive results, with world-class dynamic range. This rangefinder-inspired body is home to two compositional options, in the form of a built-in OLED EVF, and a large 3.2-inch tilting, touch-sensitive LCD screen. The latter's touch functionality allows for certain external features to be dropped, resulting in a more scaled-back, compact form.
Along with highly detailed still images, the GFX 50R is capable of excellent video quality, of Full HD 1080p resolution at 30fps. Ensuring not to cut back on things too much, this camera still features a mic input and headphone out, so users can make the most of this video functionality. A 117-point contrast-detection AF system finds you sited to capture a variety of subjects, which is handy for the video mode, as well as the respectable continuous shooting rate of 3 frames per second.
Much like the smaller format Fuji X models that have been ever so popular, the Fujifilm GFX 50R features a range of dedicated exposure dials, that allow for a premium level of hands-on adjustment, which enthusiasts will relish. The magnesium alloy used in the construction results in a camera that is both lightweight and rugged, with dust and moisture-resistance, as well as freezeproofing, allowing the camera to be put to its full potential in a wide variety of environmental conditions.
