The Olympics are just around the corner. Athletes are getting primed and ready, as are photographers, which is why this announcement is so important. Next year will see the arrival of Nikon’s new flagship D6 and with it a sports-friendly telephoto zoom lens, the Nikkor AF-S 120-300mm f2.8E FL ED SR VR lens.
As this is just a tease to get us ready, we don’t know too much about these new products but we do know that if the D6 heads in the same direction that the D5 took us, which is what is expected, it is sure to take the world by storm.
The D-series is now pushing the 20-year bracket, and since its inception, it has always been the chosen tool of serious sports-shooters and photojournalists. The Nikon D6 is sure to be no exception. While at this pre-development stage, Nikon are keeping new advancements on the down-low, what you can be sure of is the D6 will excel in several key areas; speed, accuracy, image and build quality, and a user-friendly feature set that is attuned to the needs of professional shooters.
As for the 120-300mm lens, what we can tell from the name alone is this lens will be versatile, fast, and stabilised, which is just what you need to capture all of the action of the greatest sporting events on earth. We can also gather that this lens will use Nikon’s premium quality ED and Fluorite lens elements, which simply put is the promise of high-end imaging excellence.
