Time and again, Nikon have wowed us with their latest full-frame offerings, this new model being a solid all-rounder, with a massive resolution, and suitability to sports and video shooting. The resolution of 45.7MP was a figure we would once have attributed to only medium format DSLRs but here it sits in this rugged FX-format model. The 7 frames per second continuous shooting rate, which can be boosted to 9 with optional battery grip, is backed by a precision 153-point AF system. For the photojournalist-style shooter, who uses any suitable means to capture the moment in the best possible light, your prayers have been heard, the D850 featuring 4K UHD video capture to go with its powerful stills performance.

The previous FX offerings from Nikon have revolutionised the full-frame world. The D850 shows this revolution was not just a passing phase. At the heart of the D850 is a whopping 45.7MP Full-Frame sensor, which pairs with Nikon’s EXPEED 5 processor to produce stunning picture quality, and high-speed performance. This high-speed ability comes to a head in the 7 frames per second continuous shooting rate, which you can boost to 9 frames per second when you use the compatible battery grip. A 153-point AF system finds your focal point without delay, so you can make the most of this burst rate and fill your memory cards (one XQD Slot and one SD slot) up with beautiful imagery.
Not just a body for stills photography, the D850 is a capable video tool, allowing 4K UHD video to be captured at 30p. For advanced video functionality, the D850 obliges, providing features such as Full HD recording at 120p for slow-motion playback, as well as the ability to save uncompressed files to an external recorder, via the HDMI output. To frame your movies, or stills from intricate angles you may wish to utilise the 3.2-inch tilting LCD screen, which is also touch-sensitive, while many photographers will prefer the classic approach provided by the large and bright optical viewfinder, with 0.75x magnification.
