DVM is the mini DV cassette designed for all mini digital video devices. It's outstanding formulation, coupled to its high degree of durability and reliability, make it the ideal choice for digital VCR's that comply with the SD format. TDK's DVM utilises a specially developed protective DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) tier above the evaporated magnetic layer to withstand the relatively high head-to-tape speeds employed in the mini DV system. Such technology means that TDK's DVM is highly suited to both indoor and outdoor applications.

Technical Specifications
To ensure a very low error rate and sufficient high output capacity, TDK's mini DV cassettes employ a pure cobalt formulation deposited on the tape's base using an advanced thin-film vacuum evaporated process.
This realises a coercivity of 120kA/m, one of the highest of all the iron based storage media. High output is mandatory for software length recording and to ensure this, TDK's DVM boasts a remanence of 450mT, guaranteeing all portions of the visual spectrum are reproduced accurately.
So outstanding are the output capabilities of DVM that even the red portions of the visual spectrum (which are susceptible to noise in analogue recording), are rendered with a high degree of purity, giving reds that are true reds.
The ultra-smooth surface of TDK's DVM was specially developed to protect against spacing losses and in comparison to competitive 'coated tape' varieties TDK's mini DV cassettes are considerably smoother. The result- exceptionally low error rates where signals are recorded, faithfully reproducing breathtaking natural digital images and realistic digital sound. The mini DV cassette works to tolerances in the order of microns. The recording track pitch for this format, for example, is just a minute 10um. Any tape instability in the drive mechanism can have disastrous results on the tape run. For this reason, in addition to the lubrication qualities accorded to the coating of the tape surface, TDK mini DV cassettes feature a specially developed back-coating used for added tape stability.
TDK's DVM is an ideal medium for recording the audio characteristics employed by the mini DV format. In the case of two channel sound reproduction, the standard provides 16-bit linear quantisation and three sampling frequencies; 48kHz, 44.1kHz and 32kHz. This is the identical specification for DAT which is recognised as the highest quality digital audio recording system for consumer use. The mini DV system is also standarised with 12-bit non linear and 32kHz, 4-channel (dual stereo) capabilities.
