The Leica Dicomar lens provided in the NV-GS330 features 12 lens elements in eight groups and uses low-dispersion optical glass to reduce the blurring of colour. A special multi-coating process is applied to the 14 lens element surfaces to minimize chromatic aberration, so images are crisp, clear, and free of flare and ghosting.

Unlike most other makers of consumer video cameras, Panasonic is also a leader in supplying the TV and broadcast industry with professional cameras. For example, it is a little known fact that Panasonic has been responsible for delivering the Olympics to our homes for the past 20 years. Since the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, Panasonic has exclusively provided professional broadcast cameras, editing consoles, monitors, and assorted recording media to the international Olympic Broadcast Centres which beam images of the games around the world.

Due to the exceptional breadth of its expertise, Panasonic is always looking for ways to implement into its consumer ranges, technologies developed and proved in its professional products. A good example of this is the 3CCD camera systems employed by most professional cameras. Unlike 1CCD systems which only have one image sensor, 3CCD systems utilise three separate image sensors in order to capture the most life like, vivid colours.

Panasonic has now downsized its professional 3CCD camera system for use in consumer models. In a 3CCD camera system, the light received through the lens is split into its three primary color components (red, green and blue), and the signal from each is processed by one of the three image sensors, or CCDs. This system, in which three separate CCDs capture and process the light information received through the lens, helps reproduce high-resolution HD images with magnificent colour.
