The GX7 is the latest enthusiast-range compact system camera from Panasonic. Offering everything the enthusiast could want in a new, compact design, the Panasonic Lumix GX7 incorporates a stunning high-resolution, tilting electronic viewfinder to give photographers even greater freedom when composing images. Dual control dials allow for ease of access to manual settings, with a convenient built-in flash and image stabilizer system providing the security of shake-reduction even to non-stabilized lenses.
With Panasonic's "Light-Speed AF" focusing system delivering outstandingly fast and reliable autofocus, as well as shooting speeds of up to 5 frames per second, photographers can expect incredible response times capable of capturing every fleeting moment with brilliant detail and clarity.
Classic rangefinder styling, with a new 2764k-dot and tilt-able electronic Live View Finder
The DMC-GX7 sports a sleek rangefinder-style body, making it perfect for photographers looking for something more small, compact and less intrusive than a big bulky camera. The new Live View Finder is built in to the camera’s body and offers 2764k-dot equivalent high resolution and vivid, true to life colour reproduction. As the LVF is also tilt-able to 90 degrees, you’ll find this camera gives you greater shooting flexibility, especially when mounted on a tripod, and it’s perfectly complimented by the 3.0-inch large touch-control rear monitor that also tilts up by 80 degrees and down by 45 degrees.
New 16.00-megapixel Live MOS Sensor, combined with the new Venus Engine
Inside the camera’s incredibly stylish body beats the heart of advanced imaging technology. The new 16.00-megapixel Live MOS Sensor and Venus Engine work together to produce sensational image quality and to dramatically reduce noise. This means you can shoot in very low-light situations and capture stunningly clear images with ultra sharp resolution. The new sensor also ensures excellent motion picture quality, with smooth results from Full HD 1920 x 1080 50p recording in AVCHD Progressive and MP4 with stereo sound.
In-body Image Stabilisation and Focus Peaking give you greater lens choice
Thanks to the in-body Image Stabilisation and Focus Peaking technology incorporated into the DMC-GX7, you can use this camera with legacy lenses and enjoy blur-free photography. The in-body IS works to compensate for non-digital lenses and digital interchangeable lenses that haven’t been created with an optical image stabiliser, while Focus Peaking performs a similar function for lenses without built-in AF modes. This feature shows the peak of focus in MF and AF+MF mode and can be monitored in Live View in a choice of colours.
New 1/8000sec Maximum Shutter Speed and up to 1/320 Flash Sync
The DMC-GX7 is the fastest G Series on the market with a max 1/8000 sec shutter speed for impressive results when partnered with a high-speed lens and open
aperture. Now, even in bright light, you can attain shallow depth of field in your images. The built-in flash can be synchronised with max 1/320 second shutter speed.
Wi-Fi Connectivity and NFC offer connectivity and control
With a combination of NFC and Wi-Fi capability, the DMC-GX7 offers fantastic control, connectivity and ability to share. When using compatible devices, NFC lets you connect Wi-Fi with a simple tap of a smartphone or tablet, so no more troublesome menus or setup procedures. Similarly, images and video can be shared between connected devices in just moments. With the Panasonic Image App, you can use your mobile device as a remote controller to view, zoom, set the focus and shoot from distance. Then, with Easy Share, you can easily upload and share your favourite images and videos to a host of social networking sites, letting you share your latest masterpiece with the world.

This is my first 'proper' digital camera since owning a Yashica in the mid eighties. A lot has changed.
I decided on this camera because of its compact size (I'm a bike tourer so size and weight are a big issue for me). I wanted a small camera that takes great photos and I couldn't be happier! It has taken me a couple of weeks to get around all the menus etc, but so far so good. I especially love the scene guides and creative control modes.
The camera feels nice and solid and even with my small hands (I am a female) I can still access all the dials. The battery seems to drain fast, but I have no point of reference here as this is my first rechargeable camera.
Also a special commendation to Byron from the Melbourne CBD city store who sold me the camera a couple of weeks ago. He was brilliant and it was a pleasure doing business with him! I will certainly be back to get some more lenses.
Easy to use, Compact, Build quality, Screen size
Cons: Battery life
