The Nikon D5200 Digital SLR camera takes everything you love about the D5100 and adds some fantastic internal features. The D5200 retains the same build structure of the D5100; relatively small and light with a flip-out screen, comfortable grip and easy-to-use buttons. Where it differs is on the inside; the Nikon 5200D has a newly designed 24 Megapixel DX sensor with up to 25600 ISO, as well as 39 Auto Focus points. This means better low light shooting, sharper images and faster, more accurate focusing. The new sensor also allows for more flexible video shooting options, letting you take more control of your masterpieces.

Newly developed Nikon DX-format CMOS sensor with 24.1 effective megapixels [NEW]
The high pixel count of 24.1 effective megapixels delivers high-definition images with fine details of the subject enabling expression with sharpness and depth. The image maintains high resolution even if it is trimmed and printed in large size after shooting.

High-density 39-point AF system features superior subject-tracking and subject-identification performance in combination with Scene Recognition System
The D5200 employs a Multi-CAM 4800DX autofocus sensor module. 39 focus points track even a fast-moving subject precisely. Furthermore, performance of auto-area AF and 3D-tracking is improved in combination with the Scene Recognition System that utilizes a 2016-pixel RGB sensor.

A choice of three body colors and a vari-angle LCD monitor that offers flexible shooting
The D5200 is available in black, red or bronze body colors. And it incorporates a vari-angle LCD monitor that enables you to set the angle you want. Compared with viewfinder shooting, you can shoot in a variety of angles from high or low with a stable posture. This expands flexibility of composition and further enhances your creativity.

  • Special Effects that enable you to enjoy various creative expressions in still images and movies by setting prior to shoot.
  • High-speed, multifunctional and high-performance image-processing engine "EXPEED 3", equivalent to that of the Nikon's flagship model, D4.
  • Wide sensitivity range of ISO 100 to 6400 (expandable to ISO 25600 equivalent) that delivers sharp images with reduced image blur even in low-lit situations or sports scenes.
  • High-speed continuous shooting at approx. 5 fps that surely captures decisive moments.
  • Stereo microphone employed [NEW], Full HD (1920 x 1080) D-Movie with selectable 60i/50i frame rate.
  • Easy-to-understand and easy-to-operate, new GUI that effectively utilizes graphic processing. [NEW]
  • Large, easy-to-view, approx. 921k-dot, wide viewing angle (170°), 7.5-cm (3-in.) horizontal-opening vari-angle LCD monitor.
  • Energy-saving design that achieves approx. 500 shots* per charge (with EN-EL14, in single-frame mode). * Based on CIPA Standards.
  • Compatible with the WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter (optional) that enables transmission of images to smartphone or tablet PC wirelessly. Compatible with the WR-R10/WR-T10 Wireless Remote Controllers (optional). Remote control is ensured even if there are obstacles in the way. [NEW]
  • 16 options of Scene Modes that enable selection of the most appropriate mode according to the shooting scene or subject.

I researched many DSLR cameras as I looked to buy my first. Once you decide on a Nikon (vs canon) then for value for money I couldn't go past the D5200. Flip screen is excellent, good quality images, large range of lenses, solid build yet compact and the fun is in learning all the features. I love the results, the camera and opportunities it provides. My tip is do your research, ask questions and once you pick your budget stick to it...with lenses and accessories you can go over very easily.

Pros: Easy to use, Compact, Build quality, Battery life, Screen size

My first camera! absolutely fantastic. Takes great photos, easy to use. Don't waste your money on the cheaper 'beginner' d3200. You gain a higher quality photos, lose the built in guide but it is replaced with extra photo effects which are fantastic. Everything you need to learn is online anyway! battery life is a little low but extras don't cost much anyway.

Pros: Easy to use, Compact, Build quality, Screen size
Cons: Battery life

My first DSLR and very pleased, not a great reputation but its lived up to all my expectations! Great image quality, easy to get a handle on and great for both first time users and those who want great photos from a cheaper camera. I also bought the 18-105mm lens and this has been great as I have not needed any other lenses for general shooting. Little things like the flip out screen, ISO button and great user interface have made the camera just that little bit better. Only cons are that as I cannot install the program ViewNX as my laptop is a few years old and no longer compatible, it makes viewing and transferring photos very difficult, I have to put the SD into an old compact camera for this. But if i can put up with that I would say this camera is close to perfect, highly reccomended!!

Pros: Easy to use, Build quality, Screen size
Cons: Battery life

This is my first Digital SLR camera. When researching which camera to purchase, budget was certainly important, value for money and functionality as well as quality. The Nikon D5200 was for me the ideal camera. As an aspiring photographer who has long desired a quality camera and having to settle for compact point and shoot cameras, I knew that I would also need a camera that I could get great shots using the auto function whilst I was learning how to fully utilise the functions of my new camera. The reason I have checked Easy to use under 'Pros' and also Complicated under 'Cons' is that if you set the camera to Auto or just use the Scene option and select your shooting conditions (of which there is an option for everything from Candle Light Dinners to Pet Portraits), then it is a piece of cake to use. If you have time and a particular item you want to photograph, then using the finer settings and getting your image perfect requires reading the manual and if you aren't a professional photographer learning on the run!
The deal I got with the 18-55 lens and the 55-300 lens was great. Teds staff were very helpful, patient and knowledgeable. I never once felt that I was wasting their time or that my lack of camera knowledge was an issue.

So to sum up, Nikon D5200 - Awesome.
Photo quality - Outstanding.
Teds - Great Staff, Great Deal.
Me - Happy as a man with a new fancy camera can be!!

Sincerely,
Graham.

Getting to know the functions but have not used it much, going on holidays soon will give it a good test then.
Battery does not last very long will see how it goes while we are away, may have to get another battery to do the change over when it is low.

Pros: Easy to use, Build quality, Screen size
Cons: Bulky, Battery life
