The D3000 features a new Guide mode — a hassle-free way for less-experienced picture-takers to master the capabilities of digital SLR cameras. Through its intuitive user-friendly interface, Guide mode assists users in choosing shooting modes for a variety of situations and, if they choose, in exploring advanced photographic techniques. From close-ups and landscapes to portraits with soft backgrounds and picture-taking opportunities of fast-moving action, Guide mode eases users into the world of digital SLR photography. In addition, settings made with Guide mode can even be fine-tuned before the shot in order to achieve the best possible photos.
Extending the D3000’s excellent performance is Nikon’s exclusive Scene Recognition System, Active D-Lighting, continuous shooting up to 3 frames-per-second, advanced 3D Color Matrix Metering II, and 11-point selectable autofocus.
Extensive in-camera image control is available using Nikon’s Picture Control System, which allows users to customise key digital image characteristics to suit personal preferences. For additional creative control, the D3000 includes comprehensive in-camera editing functions via its Retouch Menu that enhance photos with a variety of effects — without the need for a computer.
Whether it’s grabbing point-and-shoot snapshots or exploiting techniques commonly used by more advanced photographers, the D3000 offers an easy, inviting way to experience the world of digital SLR photography and obtain beautiful pictures.

been using the D3000 for a year now, have upgraded lens and learnt all the features with the camera. great to be used on the go and for shoots. only downside is the camera does not have an inbuilt auto focus motor which is bad as the 50mm 1.8d lens wont auto focus and you need to manual focus which is good though being a camera designed for beginners can teach them manual focusing

I,m not a truly serious photographer but do enjoy taking some intersting and unusual photos. I find with my Nikon D3000 that I can use the settings that are programmed such as portrait and macro for exampole, and the shot will be perfect. I'm in the process of learning the namual settings but the auto ones haven't let me down yet.

Have had a few compact digital cameras in the past and have finally upgraded to an SLR camera. Could'nt be happier with the purchase. Captures the shot straight away, no delay like standard digital cameras. Capture that moment everytime.. Also purchased the 55-200 lense for close up shots from a longer distance and it is fantastic. Great shot of water spray while the kids are waterskiing and their facial expressions. Highly recommended SLR camera for the easy use and great price too...

the nikon d3000 is a great camera for learners because it has a easy guide. in the guide you have options to view or take photos. when you click on shoot you can select easy or advanced operation. then you can select what types of things you want to shoot and the camera will change the settings. me and my 16 year old sister have one and they are a great camera. my sister takes great photos and has entered a lot of competitions and has even one some. there is a big range of lenses for the camera. there is a big range of SD cards so you can take thousands of photos. the screen is large so you can see and edit your photos. i would recommend this camera to anyone.

I bought this camera for my eleven year old son who has shown an interest in photography after using my old nikon d50 camera. I recently bought myself a Nikon D7000 and was finding it quite a complicated leap from my old Nikon D50. With this in mind and having always preferring the quality of Nikon digital SLR's I went in search of a simple to use camera that would teach my son the art of photography. The D3000fits the bill perfectly with its simple to use menu system which both guides and instructs the new user how to achieve the best results in an educational way.The camera also gives you some what if scenario as well as further creative options to get you thinking outside the square. To date he has not put the camera down for any length of
time and takes the camera bushwalking to capture his favourite nature spots. He also likes to use it to capture photos of friends and family in auto mode as it allow you to compose and shoot on the fly while letting the camera to take care of the exposure. The beauty of digital SLR's is that let you keep snapping without regard for the ammount of photos you are taking as you can just delete the ones you don't like by using the in camera
Editing options. This is a luxury we did not have in the days of film SLR's where you had to limit what you took because of the high cost of film development and printing. This camera has been so successful that I have replaced the D50 which I gave to my daughter who has recently won photo completions with it. The only factor you have totake into account is the range of lenses you can use as the camera does not have a focusing motor built in.This can be a positive as it enables you to choose thearea of the subject that you wish to focus on without being overridden by the Camera.
