With the newly introduced d4 starting at $AUD6999 i know which one i'd be buying out the two. Newer camera, 16.2megapixels, ISO 50-204800, full HD video. No doubt if you can get a d3s under 5K go for it or even still wait for d800 that should be a cracker too!

Having the D3s for the last 8 months has been an amazing experience. Not only does it have the best ISO handling of all the cameras out there, which numerous times allowed me to take photos in near-dark situations, but the High Definition movie is a breeze to use. I have bought a series of f/2.8 lenses and they are just a perfect match with this camera. Apart from its bulkiness and weight, it is no doubt a camera that is able to deliver crisp and sharp images at the fastest rate. 9 frames a second is a joyous bonus that lets me shoot my nephew while he runs around in our backyard. All in all, an awesome camera that is a must have to those who are moving into Pro-Photography.

I never would have thought that Nikon could have improved on the already amazing D3 with it's ground breaking high ISO performance but they have managed to push the envelope even further with the D3s. With a base ISO range of 200 to an amazing 12800, it's now possible to shoot very clean images in almost complete darkness. The amount of detail retained and the distinct lack of noise at 12800 has to be seen to be believed.
I use this camera for pretty much everything including portraits, sport, landscapes, social events and wildlife and it handles all perfectly.
Don't worry about the fact it only has 12MP because the files are so clean and sharp when the camera is combined with one of Nikon's great lenses like the AFS 24-70mm f2.8 G, that you can easily up size the file to print at pretty much any size you like.
If you are a Nikon fan already then this is a no brainer, just buy one but if you are a Canon user then I would suggest you don't test drive this camera out because you will be wanting to sell all your gear and make the switch.
