Video quality is stunning. Focus assist is fantastic. Audio is warm as a summer day. I'm very pleased to get pro-level processor and lens in a camera this small. Surprise: it shoots great stills too. Very very good in lower light scenarios.

The issue with this camera has been well documented, rattle in the sound attachment. If you can live with this, its a hell of a camera for the price.

I spent hours on the net looking for a video camera for my son for Xmas.H needed one that enabled him to make movies with, one that had lots of manual adjustments and wasn't too expensive. I final found the solution in the Canon XA10. When my son first saw it on Xmas day he was thrilled beyond belief. He uses it all the time and is working his way threw all the fantastic features. He recently added a Rhodes microphone that fitted perfectly on to the Canon XA10 frame. Thanks Canon and Ted's, you made my boys Xmas and now he has a video camera that will help him become the next George Lucas :).

Let's not beat about the bush... this is a lot of money to hand over for a "consumer" camcorder. The thing is... this is a lot more than that. The image quality is superb, as is the screen (and the viewfinder...). The unnervingly light weight belies a robust build...this thing is as tight as a drum - especially with the handle attached. The handling is great, although direct button access to some of the more advanced functions would be nice. Battery life is better than I expected, the tiny battery that comes as standard is good for 100 mins or so.
Who would I recommend this to? If you are buying this to video your kids playing in the back yard it would be hard to justify the spend. This is a serious Video camera with serious intentions. Those looking for ultimate (almost broadcast) video quality in a small and light package will not be disappointed...
