During extensive development Canon went back to the drawing board, listening to photographers worldwide in order to design the EOS 7D to meet their specific needs. Commenting on the creation of the EOS 7D, Mr Uchidoi, Group Executive of Photo Products Group, Canon Inc. Japan said “We consulted over 5,000 photographers worldwide and asked them what they most wanted to see from a camera. Matching this insight with cutting-edge technology, we were able to develop a camera that truly gives photographers the versatile tool they require to experiment with their images.”
Accurate Images – High performance AF and metering systems
The EOS 7D features a 19-point cross-type AF sensor, enabling photographers to achieve accurate shots and optimise composition options. This improved AF system offers a range of manual and automatic settings including Zone and Spot AF to track and capture subjects quickly and accurately. AF settings are highly customisable, allowing for rapid reaction to changes in the scene. Different AF points can be set for vertical or horizontal orientation, so photographers can automatically switch between landscape and portrait shots without touching a button.
The EOS 7D also incorporates a new metering system. The Focus Colour Luminance metering system (iFCL) intelligently measures focus, colour and luminance, across 63 zones. Complementing the 19 AF points, the dual layer sensor is able to gather information from each distinct zone to obtain a more accurate and consistent exposure.
Capture images exactly as you see them
The Canon EOS 7D features an Intelligent Viewfinder that offers photographers 100 per cent frame coverage. With 1.0x magnification - a first for EOS - photographers see a large bright image that helps to fully immerse them within the shot. A transmissive LCD incorporated in the viewfinder allows photographers to choose between various overlay features - such as AF points, the spot metering circle and composition grid – providing a range of tools that help when framing a shot. The EOS 7D is also the first EOS to introduce a Dual-Axis Electronic Level – in the viewfinder and on the LCD - that indicates both pitch and roll angles. This feature is particularly useful when shooting landscapes to ensure a level horizon, or when used in conjunction with a Tilt and Shift lens to level the camera.
The camera features a new 3 inch Clear View II LCD screen with a solid structure screen, designed to combat glare by removing the air-gap between the LCD’s protective cover and the liquid crystal. This new screen has a viewing angle of 160 degrees and is effective even in bright light. As with the EOS 5D Mark II, an ambient light sensor on the side of the screen can set brightness automatically depending on the environment.
Experiment creatively with light
The Canon EOS 7D is equipped with an Integrated Speedlite Transmitter. For the first time in an EOS, photographers can control external Speedlites with no additional accessories - ideal for those looking to experiment with creative lighting set-ups. The EOS 7D also features an extensively upgraded, built-in flash including manual control, and wider flash coverage to cover focal lengths as wide as 15mm.
Customise your individual camera experience
The EOS 7D has been conceived and designed with the photographer’s needs in mind. The look and feel of the camera has been aesthetically and ergonomically crafted to offer photographers the very best interaction. To this end, the photographer can design their own experience – camera operations are customisable, allowing the user to assign frequently used functions and settings to convenient controls. This enables photographers to save time when shooting critical moments, by changing settings quickly.
Impressive Features, Impressive Images
The Canon EOS 7D is packed with new features:
18 MP APS–C CMOS Sensor
Designed and manufactured by Canon, the sensor produces an outstanding image and offers fantastic performance at high and low conditions, thanks to a new photodiode and microlens construction.
8 fps image capture
Enabled by the Dual “DIGIC 4” processors and improved electrical system, photographers can capture images at 8fps, without the need for additional accessories and in all file types.
ISO Range
The EOS 7D enables photographers to capture subjects in their natural light. The ISO range (100 – 6,400) is expandable to 12,800.
EOS Movie
With improved operation, making it easy to switch directly to movie mode, it is now even simpler to shoot Full HD video. Users can set exposure and frame rate – with options for 24 fps to create that cinematic feel.
Dual “DIGIC 4” processors
By utilising Dual “DIGIC 4” processors, users of the EOS 7D never have to compromise between shooting speed, image quality and ISO performance.
Impressive Design
Canon has listened to photographer feedback when designing the body, as well as the internal technologies. A magnesium alloy body offers environmental protection – the tough, lightweight construction is designed to defend against moisture, and dust – equivalent to the legendary EOS–1N.
The camera is compatible with a wide range of accessories so it can easily be integrated with a photographer’s workflow. The Wireless File Transmitter (WFT-E5) allows extensive camera control via a web browser – allowing photographers to control the camera using a web-enabled mobile device.
The EOS 7D is compatible with all EF and EF-S lenses as well as Canon EX Speedlites. The Canon EOS 7D can also be used with Battery BG-E7, and remote controllers and switches such as the remote Controller RC-1/RC-5.

I am pleased with my purchase of the 7D. The only reason that I find it a bit bulky at present is because I have only used compact digital cameras until now. Image quality is excellent and I am enjoying using this camera.

This is an excellent camera. The viewfinder is great, autofocus (AF) is outstanding, and the build quality is superb, it feels pretty solid in your hand. I would highly recommend this to a friend. The Canon 7D+17-55mm f2.8 lens is the best combo (after taking the "crop factor" into consideration).

Love the new camera, really a step up from the 20D. Much bigger viewing screen than the 20D. Canon always been the leader in ease of use, well laid out controls. Custom menu a great plus, can set up to quickly access the commonly used options quickly and efficiently. Ability to control and set up 430ex flash from the camera a great plus. Also wireless triggering of off camera flash a hugh advantage, can really get some interesting shots using the flash when it's not necessarily attached to the camera. Expansion of asa/iso range to 6400-12800 makes it excellent for getting night/indoor shots. Overall the 7D is a fantastic camera for the intermediate photographer. Loving it.

I'm new to the DSLR world. Have had mostly auto's. I already love my 7D. In only a few weeks I've learnt heaps. So far the manual, camera menus and camera buttons have all been relatively straight forward to understand and learn. The picture quality so far looks amazing. I definitely have heaps to learn, but I think this camera will be great to work with. Very happy with my purchase so far and lookiing forward to taking loads more great pics.

I thought long and hard and did much research before buying the 7D and I have not been disappointed. It is a highly sophisticated piece of equipment which is almost fool proof on automatic and becomes unbelievably good when some of the manual features are used.
Teds gave good advice as to what lenses to add and a good price on all my equipment.

Amazing image quality and great auto focus. Much can be done simply on auto settings but has the ability to adjust most settings. Once I learnt how to change the settings by using the manual, after using the camera a little bit it was easy to navigate through menus and change settings quickly. This is my first slr so took some use of the manual to figure things out only for that reason. Great camera overall. Its ability to take professional looking photos has been Very pleasing.

I've been using Canon point and shoot cameras for quite a few years but wanted to step up to a DSLR and explore more creative photography. I wanted something above entry level, a camera that would satisfy me for a few years while I learned to master it. I read reviews of the EOS 7D and when it came up at Ted's Stocktake sale at an attractive price it bought it. The camera has many advanced features and there is a lot to learn. Despite that, I've been amazed at the quality of my pictures on Automatic and using Aperture mode to achieve depth of field. I could not be happier and I wish I'd taken this step years ago.

I am really enjoying using our new camera :)
We don't have a computer as of yet so getting to use the whole potential out of it as of yet has not happened. We have taken many many photo's. We brought the camera for sports and it works great. My favourite part is the fast shutter spead. It clear and amazingly fast!
The only thing is we will defently have to invest is getting a bigger and better lence down the track when we have the money =) or win some ;)

I was looking to step up from the prosumer category and improve my photography while still being the family shutterbug. The 7D has been a great step. The build quality is great - it feels sturdy and I don't sweat when taking it out and about. Battery life has been really good so far, the on board camera functions are useful and easy to find and the ability to have custom functions is already being put to use. The additions of taking HD movies with the lenses I shoot stills with has been an added bonus. The 7D isn't for those people now looking at DSLR's in the sub $1k market but the extra money is a good investment IF you really will use it for more than happy snaps to go on Facebook.

The 7d is a truely awesome camera, the sound of the shutter speed is to die for. Image quality is great with the 18 megapixel sensor and also the 100% viewfinder is very handy. The 7d has many different functions so the settings can easily be change to suite the situation. All knobs and dials are place on the camera for very easy access, I even find my self changing settings without even looking at any screens. Battery life also surprised me as I could use the camera extensively all day with out having to recharge. It is so good in fact that I don't even have to recharge the following day. Build quality is immaculate, feels very solid and tough although it is quite heavy. weather sealing is great and it works well. the firm ware is very quick, scrolling through photos, or chaning apperture etc is fast and easy. I would strongly recomend spending extra on buying a good lense suited to what you would like to do with it as a cheap lense doesn't do this camera any justice. When other people see, feel and hear the 7d, I can never take it back off of them, i've owned it for about a month and already three friends of mine have either brought it or they have it on order. The 7d is a brilliant camera and I would recomend it to most photographers who have a good understanding of photography and want to expand their passion, although I'm only 14, I love it.

My son lives in the Netherlands and I went to visit him and got the Canon 7D - we went to the Paris Roubaix with litte reading of the manual took great high speed shots (7fps) of the cyclists riding over the cobbles. Went to Munich, Vienna, and Prague - the scenic photos are superb the colour balance perfect. A photo in the art gallery in Munich of a copyist and in the background the original Bruegel is stunning.
I wish I had bought 2 Canon 7D at the time - and just recently I got my own !!
I have the 18-135 mm Canon lens but also bought a 50 mm Sigma lens for portrait shots.
I cannot fault the camera.

Having upgraded from an Eos350D that has been a trusty workhorse for 6 years, I am very pleased. The camera was costly, but worth the stretch to the budget. Image quality is very good - not as nice as a 5D, but not as expensive either. I decided on the 7D as I am often using the telephoto end of the lenses and the extra reach with the 1.6x factor is significant - to get the same reach with a full frame camera would involve much heavier and more expensive lenses. MY only major concern was that as soon as I bought it Canon would release its replacement with better performance at half the price (at which point I would be annoyed),
The 7D gives clear images with relatively little noise even at high ISO - it makes possible shots I could never manage with the 350. I spend an enjoyable day at MONA in Tasmania - a gallery where you are free to photograph, but no tripods. The illumination is dim, but the 7D managed to give opportunities in dark places at 3200 ISO.

Given i use mostially manual focus- AV-TV-M the battery for new tec is not as durable as i would of thought. it is comperable to my 450D E5 battery 2 years old. the function controls are accessiable thought the use of the scroll knob will in time take its toll due to having to go to menu for some of the format functions. overall the camera performs in low light on a plato of its own with little noise or no noticable noise even when cropped to 2/3 its size. the single focus and expanded single focus point is ideal for my use as i photoraph dragon flies . birds and wild life on that it merits well though little in the reviews expand the vslue of this function. motr drive noise in silent mode is a little louder than expected and scares some of the skitish wild life so will have to adpt to the camera. overall performs verry well. very simmulae to the EOS3 film camera i have the was with camera gear i pur chased second hand. the sales person at harvey norman in north lakes. quote said don.t carry them in stock as they are to dear and don't get much request for them. i wolnder why when they have a diase to start with, is that not thier job to educate the consumer in quality and preference of a suitable product for their use. so teds got the sale.

With traditional Canon build quality and new innovations to achieve fast burst speed and the electronic level - great for landscapes and especially for panoramic shots using the photo stitch software this is a great camera. I am really a novice when it comes to using DSLR camera's but the Canon Eos 7D so far has been a breeze and so much fun to use. So far I have been able to just point and shoot and still come out with amazing clear pictures. My grandfather bought me the camera as I will be taking a lot of fast action car racing and rally shots and so far it has not let me down. I am looking forward to improving my knowledge and being able to find my own manual settings to take even more amazing action shots as each car flies past me. My only issue is that I will have a to wrestle it off my boyfriend to be able to use it.

After upgrading from a Canon EOS 500D to a 7D, I have found the upgrade to be well worth the money spent - with it's 19 points of AF, different monochrome settings, higher megapixel quality and helpful settings such as battery life reader - the 7D is just that much more professional, creative and effective, a lovely addition to the Canon EOS D-SLR range.

As I intended to shoot surfing videos I was disappointed that Canon has yet resolved the problem associated with LCD screens in bright light. I am over 60 and need to wear glasses when reading. What hope have I, in checking focus when shooting movies in bright light. Your Canon G12 allows me to shoot video through the view finder. I will have to purchase a "Zacuto Z Finder Pro 3X to use my very good SLR (7D)

The 7D is a serous camera, for real photographers, I'm neither serous about my photography, nor am I a real Photographer, but I would not be without this Camera! having some experience with older Nikons, and some lower range Cannon's you realise how much more potential you have when you have the proper tools, this has made my journey from playing around to getting compliments from pro's so much easier, the one thing that does let it down is with all the goodies it can get a little confusing some times and it really does need a second memory card slot, 9/10 from me!

Overall, I am very happy with the 7D. The image quality is splendid. The unit is robustly built but ,like all Canons, is quite heavy to lug about.
I can't comment on the live pics or video facilities because I don't use them.
It can be a bit overcomplicated in that so many options are available to its user; the array of buttons and wheels can be a bit overwhelming. On the other hand, it does offer a host of options for those users who want to use them.

The Canon 7D is an outstanding demonstration of camera perfection for those who may not be a professional but want to produce fantastic photographs like a pro.
The robust build and feel brings confidents to the user and the ease of use is second to none. However the advanced functionality provides the user with every option at their fingertips allowing sensational flexibility. The ability to shoot at a high rate per second ensures that those hard to get shots are always possible. Robust, fast, flexible, sensational the 7D is a true leader of the pack!

My role at Trailerboat Magazine is Senior Boat Tester. I get to work with some of the nations best photographers and videographers on a daily basis but often I need to shoot my own tests and reviews.
The Canon has helped me lift my photography to a much more creditable and publishable level. I'm not a good "gadgit man" but the Canon is relatively simple to use even for us technologically disabled would be photographers.
I added a Canon 18-200 lens to the 7D as it enables me to shoot long shots as well as close detail all in one lens. Shooting fast boats, fishing, shiing and wakeboard action can be quite challenging but I am thrilled with the results I am getting.
I have also been using the 7D to produce video for our website. See here as an example http://www.trailerboat.com.au/news-and-reviews/article/articleid/74613.aspx
The Canon 7D does it all for me!

I purchased the Canon 7D camera for taking Sporting Photos( AFL Football )in all different lighting conditions, including night time under lights. The first time I used the Canon 7D was at an E.D.F.L. football game, that my son played in.
It was a night game played under lights and in June this year. The Night was a cold crisp and clear night with the only lighting being the overhead lights at the ground.
I coupled the Canon 7D camera with a Canon 300 mm telephoto lens, and was truly amazed at the action shots I was taking. I was able to take actions shots from one end of the ground to the other end, at night without a flash! What a Camera the Canon 7D is!! Every one was amazed, that those Photographs became part of a compilation that was put on DVD and presented to evey player that played for E.D.F.L. that night.
The next two games were day games played in different lighting conditions. From bright sunshine to dense fog.
The Canon 7D Camera performed magnificently.
I love this camera and would recommend it to anyone who is looking for an SLR camera that can take excellent photographs in any lighting conditions.
Happy Haddy.

I perform a lot of wildlife photography, especially "Birds of Prey" and "Insects". I had a Canon EOS 40D which I now use for landscapes & scenery, whereas I now use the Canon EOS 7D for wildlife shots. I use with the 7D a Canon EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 L IS USM, which I bought at the same time when I bought the 7D from Ted's Cameras. The 7D with it's ease of use, superb image quality, great functionality, focus point capabilities, inbuilt Full HDMI Video and magnificent continuous 8 frames per second is a truly amazing piece of photographic equipment. I couldn't afford the 1D range, so at the price, the 7D is outstanding. Any serious wildlife / sports enthusiasts would be mad to overlook this camera.
The only negative things would be; 1) Nice if the camera could not only have the 1.6 Crop but also a Full Frame Capability included, 2) Also you have to buy new batteries and battery grip (not interchangeable between the 40D)
I suppose if the 7D did have these then it would be the Camera from Heaven. Let's only dream.

I am quite happy with the quality of Canon EOS 7 D, of course I don't mind to try any new products from Canon especially if the quality will be better and become more easy to use.

I upgraded my digital camera prior to an overseas trip. Having just spent 4 weeks traveling and using the camera daily, I am really pleased with my purchase and the quality of pictures that I am achieving. The only con is the bulk of the camera which is more than compensated for by its build quality.

Canon EOS 7D is doubtless the best APS-C sensor-sized DSLR Canon has ever produced at least until 2011. 8fps capture with fast & accurate AF allows me to shoot almost everything in moving. Just need a good len, weather sealing and solid build allows me use the camera in the rain. I'm very happy with this camera.

I have gone from a 450D to the 7D and am learning something new every time I switch on my camera. I just love it. My 6 year old granddaughter taught me how to use the video part of the camera. Simply amazing.
