The EOS 1100D will sit between the EOS 1000D and EOS 550D and boasts high performance features on par with higher grade EOS models. It features a wider ISO range (100-6400) for sharper shots in low light conditions and a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor enabling high quality images to be taken. Users will also appreciate High Definition movie recording for capturing those special moments in high quality. In addition to this is the Feature Guide, an in-built glossary of shooting modes and features, all of which work together to make the EOS 1100D as accessible to entry level photographers as a point-and-shoot camera.
Great image quality at the click of a button
The EOS 1100D combines a wide ISO sensitivity of 100-6400 and a 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor, resulting in clear, sharp shots even in low light conditions. Whether it is a candle-lit dinner party or a scene in shadows, it’s never been easier to capture sharp images. And the 12.2 megapixel CMOS sensor achieves high image quality to support large printouts, or enough detail to enable trimming of images without loss of detail. The EOS 1100D also offers high-speed 9-point Auto Focus (AF) for instantaneously capturing fast moving subjects, ensuring users will never miss a moment. And with the ability to continuously shoot approximately 3 frames per second, those picture-perfect moments, such as a child’s expression, won’t be missed. Users can also enjoy the added versatility and creativity that HD movie recording offers, allowing them to shoot impressive video footage with ease.
Simple and intuitive features
Delivering intuitive features and functions, the EOS 1100D ensures entry level users who are not familiar with camera terminology can create the images they desire. Canon’s new Basic feature allows users to choose the correct settings according to the ambience of the scene. Rather than using settings such as hue” and “exposure compensation”, a shot can be taken according to the mood and lighting circumstance - e.g. brighter, shade and sunset. To make it easier still for first time DSLR users, Canon has introduced the new Feature Guide function. This guide provides simple explanations of shooting modes and functions. For those unsure of photographic definitions, Canon has now made it possible to expand their skill-set while shooting – without the need to reference an instruction manual.
Compact and lightweight
The EOS 1100D sports a stylish and lightweight design, especially great for entry level users who want the ease of a compact body, which helps reduce shake when shooting. Canon has also introduced a selection of three colours for the EOS 1100D giving consumers the choice of Black, Metallic Grey and a limited edition Red.
Two new Canon Speedlites and two new lenses for entry level photographers
Canon has also launched two new standard zoom lenses, the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III. With their compact and lightweight design they are ideal for entry level users who want sufficient zoom range for everyday photography. With a high-precision aspherical lens, which corrects aberrations, capturing clear images is effortless. The EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II also features an Image Stabilizer which gives the equivalent effect of a shutter speed of approximately four steps faster.
In addition to this, Canon has introduced two new compact and lightweight Speedlites for entry level photographers, the Speedlite 320EX and 270EXII. For the first time on a Canon Speedlite the new 320EX will feature a built-in LED light on the front of the flash body. It is now easy for users to illuminate subjects when shooting movies. Both the Speedlite 320EX and 270EXII feature a flash release function which enables easier wireless shooting. The new Speedlites enable photographers to mount the camera on a tripod and manually operate the flash, adjusting the lighting direction whilst also having the capability to activate the camera shutter remotely from the flash unit.

Bought partly as an introduction for my young teenagers to the SLR world. Could not fault the camera, it's software, or it's representation in ads or reviews. As an entry-level DSLR I am quite impressed with the versatility of settings available. It took minimal instruction for my partner to employ the Sports mode and the Full Auto mode confidently. The images that I have reviewed so far are of the standard that I would expect from an SLR. And this has all been managed with the standard, non-IS lens.

Been thinking about getting a camera for awhile, saved up and got the basic Canon Model and couldn't be happier. The picture quailty is amazing and I recently upgraded to a stronger lense, which takes even better pictures. Makes an amateur seem professional.

I have just started taking pictures and this has been really easy to use and have a play around with. The images are lovely, though I know there are other cameras that can do amazing things - maybe I'll have to upgrade sometime??
Good value for money and I'm enjoying learning the ins and outs of basic photography.

This is my 1st DSLR, but 2nd SLR having owned a film slr years ago. Mainly used good quality compacts over the years.
Love the fact with digital you can see results straight away so can see the effects of bracketing, apeture size & lens or film speed do without having to wait weeks for processing & having forgotten what you did.
I bought 1100D as an impulse buy whith twin lens kit at good price. Since bought 50mm 1.8 fixed as well. Enjoy the weight & feel of this camera & all the different manual & auto options available.
Don't see any reason to upgrade beyond this camera, besides IS lens, as it does everything I need it to do at good price. Don't need more megapixels as not printing large prints.

This is the first SLR camera I have bought, and after much internet research, most of which was difficult to understand, I went with the EOS 1100D. It has been easy to use, but also allows me some freedom to play around with things myself. After having a go at mine, my mother also bought one. As she is quite technologically challenged, I was happy to recommed it to her, and she has had no problems using it. I have been able to take a lot of gorgeous photos of my little daughter. I have bought another lens for it aswell, which has given me more freedom in what I want to capture. I look forward to capturing more great moments and scenes when we head of to the UK next month.
A side note, on each occasion I have been to Ted's I have been very happy with the customer service and recommed them to any friends looking for camera's, etc. Thanks!

The Canon 1100D is the perfect camera for a beginner who was just dipping their toe into the "SLR" pool. I love the light weight of the camera, the fact that the frequently used buttons are all located on the right hand side of the camera (sorry lefties) and its about as close to "point and shoot" with high quality that you'll get. I'm just starting out, its only a hobby (with no views to go pro) but it isn't often that you will see me without it attached to my hand.
SLR's are expensive, even this model being "entry level" will set you back over $600 by the time you have the SD card and extended warranty but you will not regret a penny of the expense when you see the images that this device captures.
I have a girl crush on this camera & am completely satisfied with this purchase!

I just got this a couple of weeks ago, due to need of a better camera than just a point and shoot, as we just had our first child, i got it home and charged the battery and away i went, really simple to use and got some great photo's o my son. Now i've started to play around with the manual mode again, simple to use. Now I'm hooked, I'm thinking of taking a intro course for photography so i can get the most out of the camera.

We bought our camera at Westfield Doncaster and received fantastic service. We took it home thinking it would be quite complicated but were reassured by the manager that she would help us all the way. After giving it a go we were shocked at how easy it was. We have taken some great photos and have recommended it to friends and family. Great quality and excellent features. Love it.

I had a EOS 300D for many years and it was a faithful and trusty Camera, takes beautiful shot. But it was getting long in the tooth so I upgraded to the 1100D.
I admit that I had doubts that the 1100D would not be up to the task, but I found it be to more than capable in the short time I have had it.
The screen is splendid, not to mention the continual shooting modes and fast AF. I cant wait to let it loose on my honeymoon in a few weeks time !

This is a great entry level camera. We have used it mostly for indoor family shots and a few outdoor events. The AV setting for outdoor shooting gives a nice focus. Some bright blue sky with ocean water reflection can wash the image out. We probably need to experiment more with settings.
The movie capture is a bonus, but focus can be a bit dodgy for moving objects and playback using quicktime or other .mov players can have buffer issues so the video is jaggy but the sounds is fine. Usually playing a second time fixes it.

I have had this camera for over a month now and I am still learning something new about it every time I use it. I enjoy fiddling around with all the settings. As I am a beginner I am learning all kinds of new photography types and styles, and I find this very easy to do with this camera. although a minor downside is that i usually take it bike riding with me, and it's not easy to carry, especially around my neck. overall I am extremely happy with the purchase and hope to buy many new lenses in the future.

I walked into ted's not knowing what camera i wanted, all i knew was that i wanted a dslr and it had to be cannon or nikon. I have many friends and family that shoot with nikon so for me to by a cannon is telling you just how fab this camera is. The features and easy to use functions make the cannon 1100d the perfect camera for the first time photographer. Im taking unreal shots already and havn't even done any workshops or courses. I can't wait to do these though as im sure i will start to take amazing photo's with this camera once i learn all of its capabilities.
I also love the world of eos website for support, ideas and its tutorials. If your in the market for a great value for money camera and your just starting out this is the camera for you!!

Have not yet used the full range of features but, what I have used, I have found reasonably straight forward. Am also very pleased with the quality of the prints I have had processed and am extremely pleased with the fact that they are automatically 6x4 inches. However, I did lose the lense cap on its first outing so it would be good if they came with an attachment.

This is ideal camera for people who are not professional photographers but fancy to carry an SLR camera. Photo quality is excellent. I bought it with a 18-270mm lens so that I don't have to interchange lens. Takes a while to get use to with SLR as it is bulky than usual compact cameras, but once you start using an SLR, you will not enough the compact ones.

I purchased my camera just prior to a 10 week overseas holiday. It was so easy to use and only had to charge it a couple of times even after taking 1000's & 1000's of photos, just ask my patient husband! I also took video and was amazed at the quality and sound it captured, for special moments it is just amazing. The screen size made it so easy to know if I had just the right photo or not. So glad I had the option of no flash with a very quick turn of the button, many art galleries throughout Europe don't allow a flash. At times I felt the camera was bulky, can't just slip this one in your handbag or pocket, but I only had to remind myself the quality of the photos it takes and once in the camera bag and over the shoulder it wasn't so bad. Now I have the huge task of sorting through my photos, actually it's not that bad as you relive your holiday and that always brings a smile to your face. Thanks Canon.

I initially found the camera easy to use in the automatic modes but have had some difficulty. I could not getr the blurred background effect with portrait mode despite numerous attempts. I also had some difficulty getting the video mode to work but now have it working. I found using apperture priority very easy. The menu is comprehensive and easy to use but there are so many functions on the camera that it is taking me awhile to get to know them all. And then there is the issue of remembering how I did it!

Great automatic images but easy to use manual options for even better results. A good option for someone wanting to start taking something more than just happy snaps.

Ted's Camera's Sales lady told me to pick up the camera and choose the camera that felt best. The Canon EOS 1100D has been the best from that first moment. I have travelled almost twice round the world since I purchased it only 5 months ago and it has been a fantastic companion for the whole time. From Glaciers in Alaska to Lion cubs in Kenya and Mount Kilimanjaro the photos are superb. The camera is easy to use for the initiate and is able to allow the most creative adaptions. WOW!!!

I am not a professional photographer by any means, however my business is internet based so my photographs NEED to look professional and appealing to my customers.
With my new Cannon SLR, this is just so easy to do! My sales have increased and my photographs look amaizing!
My friend actually is a professional photographer and he cannot believe how good my shots look given my lack of expertise in photography!
I LOVE my Cannon SLR!!!

Its been more than a month now since I purchased my own Canon EOS 1100D.
I'm very impressed with this camera, the features which offers everything from a useful 28mm wide angle to a far-reaching 336mm telephoto, catering to most focal lengths that a typical consumer like me will need.
Im totally happy with everything this camera offer especially with the quality of the photos, its a A for AWESOME for me.

This camera has been perfect for my first dSLR. Each setting (Portrait, Close-up, Landscape etc') displays a brief summary of what the setting does prior to use, so it was very easy and quick to get used to. It is quite difficult to find the correct setting to use when photographing stage shows and productions or anything with restricted lighting and a lot of movement, but I have found this with most cameras. Overall the image quality is amazing and I am very pleased with this camera. I am also considering purchasing another lens, because the stablizer lens does not have the best zoom.

Hi its fun and lovely to have this camera, (Canon 1100D). The picture and great quality the focus are fabulous and so clear. I love this camera considering the amount compared to others, however the only down fall is the weight especially if you put on the long lens, but overall are great. I will difenately recomend the Canon DSLR to all my friends.

I`ve always liked taking pictures, I believe that creativity makes photos look amazing but this camera has helped me to capture breathtaking sceneries and moments.
The quiality of the pictures taken under all conditions such as night, day, moving objects, rain, making focus on backround or blurrying it to remark a portraitor many others is amazing.
It is easy to use and only has few buttons wich explains (main idea) what the camera can feature on each setting.
I really love it and I think I need to keep practicing its use because at this moment still I have lots to discover on it.
undoubtely a good purchase.

This camera is easy to use and produces great pictures for the price. More advanced users may find it basic, however for anyone just entering the DSLR market it makes a wonderful camera. Has easy to use settings that are still capable of producing quality shots.

Really good choice to begin with a DSLR camera.
I bought the kit with the 28-55 ISII and 55-250 ISII: very good lenses too (anti shake really efficient).
The video mode seems not as good as the picture mode (but you don't buy this kind of camera for videos, do you?)
You just have to be careful with dust as there is no anti dust system.

Hi guys,
I recently took a trip to Sydney where a friend of mine purchased a video camera from Ted's as I had told him how good their prices were. Whilst he was being served I was very impressed with the salesman's knowledge and how he wasn't trying to sell the most expensive item but asked lots of questions and found the one most suitable to his needs. I then spoke to this gent and said I had been looking for a Digital SLR for a while now as I had done photography at school but was unsure of what to buy, I was pointed in the direction of the Canon EOS1100D. This was perfect and to boot was a limited edition red one (I though it must take faster photo's than the black. I was about to head to Malaysia on a holiday to visit family and this camera has been a dream to use, not only is it an slr but has image stabilizer and auto functions as well. I have taken so many photo's whilst there and even got a few more Lenses etc. The range of accessories available, the reasonable pricing and especially the quality of the shots it took, so much better than my old digital camera. The salesman was able to answer every question and didn't pretend to know everything and asked his colleagues when he was unable to answer correctly. We have just had a Ted's open up here at Maroochydore and he was able to tell me this, so my extended warranty and the servicing included every year fir the first 5 that I own it. I am sooooooo impressed that my brother purchased one when we got back on Saturday and the photo's I took I will cherish for life, Thanks Canon and thanks Ted's!

I just start using SLR this year. 1100D definitely a great camera to start with. It has almost same function but user friendly display. The image quality is much better than the other model, but of course not as good as those higher end ones. I have to say the build quality is great, as I kind of drop it once, but still working quite well.
And the best thing for 1100D is it comes with red body and light weight. I just can't leave it and love to take it everywhere!

It is proving great for photos for our business brochures and website, as well as the family holiday photos. Really enjoying the camera, we wish we had bought it earlier.
